The theme is "An Atlantic City Style Sand Castle"
The Sandtennial, celebrating 100 years of professional sand sculpture, will consist of a very large scale castle, monopoly board, old elements pertaining to AC's history, logos for major sponsors, and an area for old sand art pictures to be brought back to life. It will be approx 25 ft high and 80 ft long with a handicaped- accesible walkway for the public to browse. |
Music featuring Rock Favorites, Oldies, The British Invasion, and more Women's Pro Beach Volleyball (televised nationally) skydiving, hobie cat regatta, dance contests, 5k run...
Amateur Sand Sculpture Contest June 22, noon - 3:30 pm - on the boardwalk at Arkansas Ave. adjacent to the professional sand sculpture exhibition - awards presented at 4:00 pm Sand Sculpture Contest Categories
1st 2nd and 3rd place trophies for each catagory - grand prize award for best in show - ribbons and goodies to all competitors |

Sandtenniel Video Update - 10/5/97
Larry Dudock's documentary video of the Sandtenniel Project has been officially blessed by the Sandtenniel comittee and is now officially available for only $12 (plus $3 shipping). It runs an hour an 23 minutes and includes footage and stop-motion photography of the building/carving process as well as shots of the completed piece.... and is rounded out with interviews with several of the participating sculptors.
Larry, who can be reached via snail mail at9 Conwallis Rd, Setauket, NY 11733, has taken upon himself the mission of documenting all the sandsculpture events he can get himself to. (He tells us that a video of the recent Virginia Beach Neptunefest is currently in the works.) It's nice to know *someone* is doing this! Support his efforts and order your tape today!
